Committee Reports:
Lynn Ackerman reported that the Sunshine Committee has sent several cards. Alex Booke stated that the Newsletter will go out by the end of this week.
Old Business:
Swiss Teams Ð Bruce ToderÕs Letter
Bruce Toder had written a letter to the RABA Board regarding compensation of directors at RABA events. He proposed an increase in the salary and compensation for supplies. The Board discussed the rates for local directors, the possibility of using different directors, the potential of paying on the basis of the number of tables in play, and a base fee plus an increment per table. The fact that the last RABA event netted only $54 was emphasized noting that any increase in directorÕs compensation would jeopardize the ability to maintain a Òno worse than break evenÓ position. The Board agreed that there should be no change in compensation for the February 27 RABA Teams event but that a change will be considered for future events. Lew Allen agreed to write a letter to Bruce communicating the BoardÕs decision. He will circulate a draft by e-mail, collect suggested modifications, and deliver a hard copy letter to Bruce in the near future.
Spring Sectional
Lynn Ackerman will chair the Sectional with assistance from Liz Meacham on Friday and Saturday and Margie Spence on Sunday. Warren Marsland will arrange for Intermediate/Newcomer events and Mike Perlson will take care of pizza on Sunday. There was discussion of the 10 oÕclock, 3 oÕclock schedule for SaturdayÕs games and Jim Bridges agreed to develop a questionnaire to be distributed at both club games and the sectional itself to assess player preferences. The two session 10 and 3 schedule will be presented along with the three session 9, 1 and 7 schedule that has been used in the past.
ACBL Training
Donna Compton of the ACBL will come to Syracuse on Saturday, April 2 for a Unit Growth Seminar at Judy ButcherÕs Studio. Ideas for increasing attendance at unit and club games will be presented. Warren Marsland is the local contact.
Future Tournaments
Warren reported that Liz Meacham has made contacts regarding a site for the August 6 Ð 7 sectional but no commitment has been made. A chair person is needed for the September 30 Ð October 2 sectional. The schedule of events for this summerÕs regional will appear in the issue of the RABA Newsletter that will go out this week.
The next meeting will be on Tuesday, April 26, 2005 at 7:00 p.m. at the service building in Allens Creek Valley (the town home complex where Lew Allen lives). The address is 61B Water View Circle.
Respectfully submitted,
Lew Allen, Secretary
