RABA BOARD MEETING Ð June 6, 2006
PRESENT: L. Ackerman, L. Allen, A. Booke, J. Bridges, D.
Folwell, M. Griffin, W. Marsland, L. Meacham, L. Sanders, and M. Spence.
ABSENT: G. Ride
The meeting was called to
order at 5:05 p.m., Jim Bridges
presiding. The meeting was held at
the site of the Geneseo
The
minutes of the March 22, 2006
meeting were approved as distributed.
Copies of the TreasurerÕs
Report were not available; they will
be distributed by e-mail. Warren
Marsland reported that finances are in order and that the books have been
audited by Norm Gath. A report
will be forthcoming. No problems
were found.
Committee Reports: Margie
Spence reported that mugs, to be
given to winners of RABA events, have been ordered.
Several members reported that
different sites have been reviewed for potential use for RABA Sectional
tournaments. The Perinton and
Greece Recreation Centers would be prohibitively expensive. Camp Hacamo is too small and lacks
parking. The Schnacky Center in
Mendon, the Redmans Club, and the Veramark Building in Pittsford are still to
be checked out. Warren suggested
that we commit to the Lakeville location and not keep hopping around. The Board agreed, at least for 2006.
A motion to hold the Fall
Sectional at Lakeville October 13 Ð
15 was made, seconded, and passed.
The starting times were set as follows:
á
Friday 1:00 p.m. and
7:00 p.m.
á
Saturday 9:00 a.m., 1:00
p.m. and 7:00 p.m. as ÒChoice PairsÓ.
á
Sunday 11:00 a.m. play through with a short meal break.
Alex Booke agreed to serve as
chair with Warren and others offering to help as needed.
The
Green Lantern has been reserved for Fall 2006 and all 2007 events.
The Nominating Committee (including Warren Marsland, Gerry Ride, Liz Meacham
and Lew Allen) was reminded that nominees are needed by August 1 so that
information can be published in the next newsletter. All Board members are asked to talk with players about the
possibility of serving and to give names of potential nominees to committee
members. The desire is to have six
candidates for four positions.
Ackerman, Allen, Bradley and Spence are the directors whose terms expire
in 2006. Bradley had resigned
earlier and was not replaced.
The MenÕs and WomenÕs
Pairs Championships has traditionally
been held at a club game. This
year it will be held July 11 at
the Geneseo Bridge Club.
The Unit 112 Newsletter
published the wrong site for the Summer Sectional August 5 and 6.
It will be in Geneseo at the Interfaith Center at SUNY Geneseo. Flyers have been prepared and will be circulated
to area clubs. Dick Folwell, the
tournament chair, is looking for ideas on how to publicize the event. It is included among tournaments listed
on the RABA web site.
The telephone directory that is published every two years is due this
fall. Bruce Toder has compiled the
directory in the past but has declined to do so this year. We need a volunteer. Jim Bridges agreed to talk with Bruce
to learn what is involved.
Old Business: Jim Bridges has requested information on Duplimate from two sources by e-mail.
There has been no response.
Warren volunteered to have the machine reside at his home and to
coordinate the duplicating of boards and have directors pick up boards before
games. The Geneseo club has agreed
to buy two sets of boards. Lots of
questions were raised about how the equipment would be used.
The meeting was adjourned at
approximately 6:10 p.m. so that Board members could indulge in a delightful
repast prepared by Dick Folwell.
Respectfully submitted,
Lew
Allen, Secretary
